Who we are
Hammerhead Aquatics Age Group Swim Team is a structured competitive swim program for SWIMMERS of all ages (from 4 years old to the Olympic Athlete) and all ability levels, in Fort Lauderdale, FL. This is a unique teaching, learning and training opportunity for swimmers to develop and maximize their potential. Hammerhead Aquatics swims at the Sunrise Middle School Pool. We are a member team of USA Swimming and the Florida Gold Coast Local Swim Committee.
Roman Gorelkov – Head Age Group Coach
Coach Roman Gorelkov was born in Oslo, Norway and raised in Moscow, Russia where he has spent all his childhood in aquatic sports. He started to swim competitively at the age of 8 for Spartans Swim Club and has participated in numerous events and competitions. Roman is a former Junior Russian Swimming Federation member, with the following accomplishments: Silver Medal holder in 5k Russian Junior Open Water Swimming Championship, Champion of Moscow Mayor’s Cup in 200 meter butterfly, Bronze medalist in 400m freestyle Junior Regional Championship in Czech Republic.
Coach Roman’s career as a coach began in 2008, assisting to his mentor Alexander Ricev and 1 year later getting an Assistant Age Group Coach position in Spartans Swim Club. In 2012 Coach Roman was awarded “Coach of the Year” by the Russian Swimming Federation for multiple team achievements among boys 10-12 years old in Russian Junior National Championship. Coach Roman received his Master’s degree in 2013 from the Kutafin Moscow State Law University. After graduating, Coach Roman spent a few years traveling all across the world studying and collaborating with swim coaches from Spain, France, Germany, Czech Republic and United States. Coach Roman has spent the last three years at Gulliver Academy in Miami, FL, to now become Head Age Group Coach at Hammerhead Aquatics. We look forward to great things from Coach Roman!
Coach John S. Grzeszczak, Sr. heads up Hammerhead Aquatics. A former High School All American, Atlantic Coast Conference Champion and ACC Record holder at North Carolina State University, has coached numerous olympians, national record holders, and his teams have won several Masters World and National Championships. He brings over 30 years of swimming and coaching experience to Hammerhead Aquatics.
Assistant Head Coach, Hammerhead Aquatic Swim Team. For the past 12 years, Coach Chris Burt has been teaching swimming as a certified Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and certified as a Professional Rescuer/Emergency Responder. Coach Burt is also a USMS Certified Swimming Official and has worked World Championships, US Nationals, YMCA Nationals and at Dixie-Zone Meets.
